A Life of
Service

Dr. Leonard “Jax” Holifield

For more than six decades, Dr. Holifield has turned skill into service: training soldiers, protecting the vulnerable, lifting up the next generation, and building tools that help veterans and first responders reach the people who need them most.

01 · The Mission

“Protection is not a skill. It is a mindset. We don’t train people to react — we train them to be ready before there is anything to react to.”

Dr. Leonard Holifield · Founder, Phalanx Training Academy

Every chapter of Dr. Holifield’s life answers the same calling: stand between people and harm, and teach others to do the same. Soldier, instructor, protector, mentor and founder, he has spent a lifetime putting his skills to work for others.

UpliftOpening doors for women, veterans and newcomers to build careers in protection.
HonorRecognizing those who serve, and building tools that restore dignity to those who sacrificed.
02 · The Heart

A Lifetime of Giving Back

His achievements are measured less by titles than by the people he has protected, trained and lifted up.

U.S. Army · 1987–1997

Preparing Soldiers to Come Home

As Chief Combatives Instructor, he trained Airborne, Air Assault, Infantry, Field Artillery and Special Operations soldiers in hand-to-hand combat, and helped shape the Army’s combatives manual. He was later invited back to Fort Bragg to “train the trainer” across four battalions, so his instruction would keep protecting soldiers long after he left.

“He was also most adept at mentoring junior soldiers and ensuring mission success through unwavering commitment and professionalism.”Col. Dennis R. Lewis, USA (Ret.) · Former Battalion Commander
Operation Desert Storm · February 13, 1991

Strength Matched With Mercy

When an Iraqi soldier breached his unit’s perimeter, Specialist Holifield subdued him by hand, without firing a shot. It was credited as the first Iraqi prisoner of war of the Gulf War, and earned him the Army Commendation Medal. What followed says even more about the man: the frightened soldier was fed, given water and treated with dignity.

“We gave him food, water and some cigarettes. His name was Ali. He was cold, hungry and frightened of being killed.”Leonard Holifield · Specialist, U.S. Army
Faith-Based Protection

Guarding Houses of Worship

As violence against churches grew, he built a dedicated church security program that trains ushers, greeters, deacons and volunteers to protect their congregations, giving faith communities a plan, a trained team and the confidence to keep their doors open.

Onna Bugeisha

Opening the Door for Women

He founded Onna Bugeisha, an all-female executive protection team, so that women who had never been given the chance could train, certify and work at the highest level of the profession.

Phalanx Training Academy

Building Careers and Livelihoods

Through Phalanx Training Academy and the organizations he founded, he has trained graduates from across the United States and more than 60 countries. Many have gone on to protect others for a living, and some have built security companies of their own that now employ others.

Phalanx Elite Hall of Fame

Honoring Those Who Serve

He created the Phalanx Elite Hall of Fame to recognize people who have given their careers to military service, law enforcement, medicine and public service, so that their contributions are remembered and passed on to the next generation.

04 · Innovation for Those Who Served

The Mission, Built Into Machines

Under Phalanx Studios Holdings, a veteran-owned company, Dr. Holifield’s mission of service is being carried into two new projects. Both are built around the same idea: no one should be left behind.

The CANE · For Veterans with Mobility Needs

The Last Stand

Strength. Intelligence. Mobility.

For many veterans, a cane is the first sign of injury the world sees. The CANE turns it into a mark of service. It is a military-inspired walking aid that pairs everyday support with modern technology and a design worth carrying with pride.

  • Ergonomic carbon-fiber grip
  • Combat-boot base with steel reinforcement
  • Carbon fiber or aircraft-grade aluminum shaft
  • App-controlled illuminated LED ring
  • Boot-print light projected at every step after dark
  • Hidden storage compartment
Healing Beyond the Body

Recovery isn’t only physical. The CANE is designed to replace the stigma of a mobility aid with pride, to start conversations about service instead of injury, and to remind every veteran who carries it that their story still matters. It stands for pride, purpose and hope.

For First Responders & Disaster Recovery

MECHKO

Reaching the Unreachable

When floods, hurricanes and disasters cut off roads, conventional emergency vehicles stop. MECHKO is an amphibious emergency-terrain vehicle built to keep going into flood zones, debris fields and broken ground to reach people who would otherwise wait for help.

  • Search and reconnaissance in terrain other vehicles can’t cross
  • Recovery and evacuation from flooded and damaged areas
  • Carrying supplies and equipment where they’re needed
  • Built to operate across land and water

MECHKO is being developed in Eastern North Carolina, a region that knows hurricane flooding firsthand. It was built by veterans and engineered in the image of Dr. Holifield: his determination, his grit and his readiness when the moment comes. Plans also include a hands-on trades program to give veterans skills for new careers.
